Ring Size Guide

Lab-grown ruby and lab-grown pink sapphire handmade silver ring.

The Strawberry Delight ring is a one of a kind ring. This ring was handmade in England using the ancient art of sandcasting, which has infused it with a slightly gnarled texture to the surface of the ring and ring band. These unique imperfections make it an unrepeatable treasure. After the ring was sand cast, space was burred out to set the lab-grown ruby and lab-grown pink sapphire, and then each gemstone was set by hand.

Materials: x1 octagon 6x4mm lab-grown ruby, x1 round 4mm lab-grown pink sapphire, sterling silver. Total weight 6.1g.

Ring Size: This ring is a size UK M (US 6) and can be resized to a size UK M 1/2 (US 6 1/4) or UK N (US 6 1/2). Please confirm which size you would like in the box at checkout.

Hallmarking: Please allow up to 2 weeks for shipping after purchasing to give me enough time to post the ring to the assay office for hallmarking.

Hallmarking

In the UK, all silver items weighing above 7.78g and all gold items weighing above 1g must be hallmarked by an assay office.

Please check the product description of each piece of jewellery to see if it has been hallmarked.

Our sand cast earrings are not typically hallmarked, but there will be an option at checkout to add hallmarking for an additional fee.

Lab-Grown Rubies 101

Lab-Grown Rubies FAQs

What are lab-grown rubies?

Lab-grown rubies and natural rubies have the same chemical composition and are a variation of the mineral corundum. The difference between natural and lab-grown rubies lie in how they are made; natural rubies form in the earth whereas lab-grown rubies are created in a lab.

Are lab-grown rubies the same as synthetic rubies?

Yes - in the gemstone trade, lab-grown rubies are also known as synthetic rubies. The term synthetic ruby should not be confused with imitation rubies, which are made from other materials, such as glass, to imitate the appearance of a ruby. Lab-grown / synthetic rubies are made from the same material as natural rubies.

Why are lab-grown rubies more affordable than natural rubies?

Lab-grown rubies cost much less than natural rubies because there are no associated mining costs and they are more readily available than natural rubies. High quality natural rubies are rare, which makes them expensive, whereas lab-grown rubies are grown on demand. Their abundance is what makes them more affordable, rather than a difference in appearance or quality.

Are lab-grown rubies less valuable than natural rubies?

Often, value in jewellery stems from rarity, so lab-grown rubies jewellery is unlikely to ever be perceived as valuable as natural ruby jewellery. However, lab-grown rubies offer all of the same qualities as natural rubies, such as colour and durability, without the hefty price tag of their natural counterparts.

Are there visible differences between natural and lab-grown rubies?

Lab-grown rubies will look more perfect than natural rubies because they are grown in controlled conditions. This means that lab-grown rubies are often more saturated in colour and have no inclusions.

What are the benefits of lab-grown ruby jewellery?

Lab-grown rubies are more affordable than natural rubies. For the same price, customers can purchase a larger gemstone with better colour saturation and no inclusions. High quality natural rubies with saturated colour are rare. Lab-grown rubies offer the chance to make more ruby jewellery for the world to enjoy.
