In the UK it is illegal to sell or describe any item as Gold, Silver, Platinum or Palladium unless it is hallmarked as per the UK Hallmarking Act 1973.
Articles above the following weights must be hallmarked:
Silver, 7.78 grams
Palladium, 1.0 gram
Gold, 1.0 gram
Platinum, 1.0 gram
I work mostly with silver in quantities less than 7.78 grams, so most of my work does not require hallmarking. However, any work that weighs above the listed exceptions will be clearly stated.
Any work that requires hallmarking will have the Hockley Mint Sponsors Mark and Birmingham Assay Office mark.
