Ethics and Sustainability
Eleanor Johnson Jewellery is a brand built upon the values of ethical and sustainable creation and consumption. We create high quality jewellery meant to last - modern heirlooms to be cherished for a lifetime, intended to be touched, worn, loved, and shared with future generations.
At Eleanor Johnson Jewellery, we are transparent about the processes that allow us to create our jewellery. We only use recycled silver and gold and source our gemstones from reputable UK suppliers. Unfortunately, as the gemstone mining industry is unregulated, we cannot guarantee fair working conditions and wages for the miners. This is the same for the majority of jewellers. However, we choose to work with trusted UK suppliers who have long-standing relationships with the mines they use and are satisfied that the gemstones have been obtained as ethically as possible. We also use lab grown gemstones, which are chemically identical to naturally formed gemstones, but have none of the ethical concerns associated with the mining industry.
All of the jewellery is created on a made to order basis in Eleanor’s home in the Forest of Dean, England. Eleanor uses the ancient technique of lost wax casting to create each piece and works with a local casting company in Birmingham to cast her creations into silver and gold. Eleanor finishes each piece by setting every gemstone and polishing every piece of jewellery until it sparkles.
